Tommo on the Newmarket Gallops

It was a bit chilly on the Newmarket gallops this morning and a cold easterly wind caught a few out after the blistering hot weather of the past week!

However with Epsom just around the corner William Haggas gave Vow her last piece of work and now its all systems go for the Investec Oaks on Friday.

My wife Maureen (Lester Piggotts daughter)who rides her every day is very happy with her and although she doesnt do a lot at home she seems to have come on since her win at Lingfield.

Thats good news for supporters of Vow and I must say I was very impressed with her at Lingfield in the Oaks Trial although it was slightly worrying the way she veered across the track.

Jonny Murtagh said she shied at the crowd and the big screen in the middle of the track so with crowds either side of her at Epsom that will hopefully keep her straight! he added.

Haggas has a 100 per cent strike rate in classics at Epsom 2 runners and 2 winners - so when he considers Vow a major contender you ve got to sit up and take note!

He also saddles the interestingly named Beaten Up in the Investec Coronation Cup and he believes the horse is up to Group 1 class.

He has a lovely willing attitude along with plenty of ability, hes genuine and I d be looking for a good run on Friday! he added.

The Fugue who won the Musidora impressively looks a big rival to Vow in the Oaks and she looked good as she did a couple of routine canters up Warren Hill and William Buick can look forward to a very good ride in the fillies classic on Friday.

John Gosden had his massive team looking good as they cantered twice up Warren Hill before he rushed off to supervise their training at the starting stalls.

Michael Bell who of course won the Derby with Motivator will not be at Epsom on Saturday as he has runners at both Musselburgh and Haydock and judging by the well being of his horses he could be in for a very good weekend- watch this space!!!

Incidentally talking of Musselburgh this most go ahead of courses has come up with a fantastic prize for the best dressed racegoer at their big meeting on Saturday.

To celebrate HM the Queens Diamond Jubilee they are going to give a diamond as the prize!

I think this will ensure plenty of very well turned out people at the Edinburgh track and the racing looks fantastic and its live on Channel 4 as well!
