Scoring at Wolverhampton!!!

So what do you do when go get to the racetrack at 7 in themorning and they call it off? Easy go to Wolves!

But it wasnt Wolverhampton Racecourse that I headed toafter Haydock was frozen off early on Saturday morning-no it was to theWolverhampton Football Stadium better known as Molyneux to watch the PremierLeague Match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool.

Matt Cook whose company Sportingbet.com are the officialsponsors of Wolves heard me on Talksport Radio on Saturday morning and rang andoffered me the chance to sit in the Directors Box at Molyneux to watch theSaturday lunchtime match.

It was a real pleasure and after a warm greeting from justabout everyone at the stadium found myself sitting behind the LiverpoolDirectors and in front of Mr FabioCapello, the England Manager!

Just a few seats along was the instantly recognisableRachael Heyhoe Flint MBE- one time gung ho Captain of the England WomensCricket Team and now Director of Wolves.

It was some match as well and although it was disappointingfrom my hosts point of view it was a marvellous result for Liverpool and theirnew manager Kenny Dalglish as they won 3-nil with Torres scoring two of them!

And I watched as Torres and his teammates took tome to standfor photos and sign the autographs of their young fans and indeed I got alovely picture of Torres alongside my young son Hugo who is a Liverpoolsupporter.

It was also good to catch up with Sammy Lee, the trainer ofthe Liverpool team, and I can tell you hes still got as much enthusiasm andlife in him just as he did all those years ago as a Liverpool player!

It was also good to see the lifesize bronze statue of thelate Billy Wright who of course was captain of Wolverhampton Wanderers in theirheyday and the one of the all time greats of the England team.

Towards the end of his life he was one of the top men in ITVSport and I got to meet him and talk to him whenever I was in the midlands andhe used to take me out to keep fit when I was training to run the LondonMarathon!

Yes its a long time ago but he did something for me Illnever forget.

When my father Stanley was dying of cancer Billy rang him upto cheer him up and even got his famous wife Joy to talk to him as well and sheof course was one of the famous Beverly Sisters!

I can still remember my dad ringing me up and tellingme-youll never guess whos just rung me up!

I didnt let on that Id asked Billy to call and I can tellyou even in pain that made him feel an awful lot better!

Its amazing that all these years later the memories comeflooding back and its all because Haydock was frozen off!

By the way if you believe in co incidences would you believeafter Torres scored two goals on saturday at Wolverhampton I wonder if you canguess the name of the horse that is running at Wolverhampton Races on Mondayafternoon it is of course Striker Torres!!!
