Great Leighs is back and looking to start racing again!

The Essex track that opened in 2007 only to close in 2009through lack of funding is aiming to start again under a company headed byPolytrack founder Martin Collins and thats got be good news for everyone inracing!

Great Leighs is perfectly situated being just 10 miles eastof Londons Stansted Airport, its 50 minutes drive south of the massivetraining centre that is Newmarket and its in a very good catchment area in theheart of Essex!

Everyone in Newmarket would welcome its return saidStuart Williams, President of the National Trainers Federation and thetrainers would be right behind it!

Indeed when they were racing there John Gosdencommented-This is the best racing surface in the world!

Its now nearly 2 years since it closed and there is nodoubt there is work to be done but the track itself looks good, the floodlightsare all in place, the weighing roombuilding and the parade ring are perfect and the stable block is in pristine condition!

The new company will now submit their business plan to theBritish Horseracing Authority and in January will apply for fixtures for 2013.

There was no doubt that mistakes were made when the trackopened originally in fact in their keenness to start racing they probablyopened before everything was actually ready and then came the problems withfinances. Now with the deal done for the site and new financing in place I believe we shouldget behind Great Leighs and lets get racing there again!

Kirsty Milczareck may not make as many racing headlines asthe better known fellow lady jockey Hayley Turner but shes one tough cookie!

Milkshake as shes affectionately known in the weighingroom suffered a bad fall shortly after the stalls opened in a race at Kemptonlast week and returned sore and black and blue!

But she was riding the following day and 48 hours laterproduced an outstanding ride on Opus Maximus to come from last to first in a 10runner race at Wolverhampton!

It hurts like hell when I walk but when I get on thehorses back there is no problem at all she told me as she hobbled back toweigh in!

From where I was watching it was some ride and if she can dothat when shes hurting imagine what she can do when shes 100% fit!

Tony McCoy, the 16 times Champion Jockey, is so focussed onwinning that he was annoyed with himself even after riding 4 winners in a dayat Leicester last week!

I got beaten on my 5^th ride and he was an oddson favourite he said shaking his head. The fact that his mount could not getanywhere near the runaway winner despite all of his urgings made no differenceto the man who continues the break record after record and has ridden well over3,000 winners!

And when I was driving back from the track I was thinkingthat 4 winners for McCoy seems to be the norm and we just accept it that hesgoing to do it on a regular basis which he does.

He actually makes it look quite easy which of course itsnot and it just shows you how brilliant he is. In fact if he stopped riding nowat the halfway stage of the season he would still win the jockeys title-thatshow far ahead he is of his rivals!

Jimmy Scott who has spent most of his working life-nearly 40years- as travelling head lad to Sir Michael Stoute is to retire!

The evergreen 66 year old who has been in the winnersenclosure at virtually all of Stoutes big race victories over the years andstill rides out 3 lots every morning will call it a day just before Xmas.

Scott has travelled all over the world and has done 2 Japancup winners, 5 Breeders Cup winners, a Dubai world Cup winner with Singspieland a host of classic winners in Europe including Shergar in the derby!

I must admit it wont seem the same the Stoute team withoutJimmy Scott-but hes had a fantastic working life and I hope he puts it alldown in a book because hes been involved with some of the greatest horses ofall time and he must have some great stories.

Jimmy- enjoy your retirement! Youve earned it!
