Tommo meets Owen and Rooney!

If racing ever wanted to promote itself all it had to do wasget Wayne Rooney, the Manchester United and England soccer star, to buy aracehorse and guess what? Hes bought two!

I got the exclusive last Monday and within hoursamazingly- it was front and back page news around the world!

There I was standing between two of the best knownfootballers in the world, Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney, and guess what we weretalking about?- racing!

Owen of course needs no introduction to the Sport ofKings(or should I say soccer players?) having already bred and owned a RoyalAscot winner and we were standing in one of his 4 american barns at his superbthoroughbred racing stables just south of the City of Chester in the heart ofthe beautiful Cheshire countryside.

Michael had invited me to take a look behind the scenes forMUTV(Manchester Uniteds TV arm) and hed warned me that he was going to bringsomeone famous after training on Monday and that person just happened to be acertain Wayne Rooney!

Wearing a Paul McCartney T shirt-were going to see himtonight in Manchester so I thought Id better wear it- ripped jeans andsneakers he strolled in and he took me to a stable and showed me his new60,000 purchase.

Hes a real beauty he said proudly as we went into thestable and I picked him out of four that Michael offered me.

He couldnt have picked better for this colt by BahamianBounty out of Amazon Beauty looks a grand sort and I told him Id seen thehorse earlier cantering alongside the 5 furlong all weather gallop and Id beenimpressed with the way he moved considering hes just a 1 year old horse!

Michael brought me and my family round the stables lastmonth and I was very impressed with the whole place and the trainer TomDascombe and I just wanted to get involved.

He was actually more than impressed-and who wouldnt be-thathe bought another horse for his father and we saw him (the horse that is)having a swim in the equine pool.

So what about the racing colours-presumably red and whiteof Manchester united I enquired?

Er actually no-I let the missus pick the colours and sheliked pink and white stripes!

There is no doubt the facilities at Manor House Stables aresecond to none and considering it was just a broken down dairy farm 5 years agoOwen is rightly proud of his investment.

Ive visited all the worlds top stables includingGodolphin because I wanted to have the best here and I believe Ive achievedthat said Owen.

Results certainly echo that view and he achieved theultimate in June this year when Black Panther won at Royal Ascot. I actuallycried in the winners enclosure it was that incredible said Owen and this froma man who has scored stacks and stacks of important goals for club and country!

Were going to start Black Panther off in the OrmondeStakes at the Chester May Meeting which is my local track and Id love to takehim to race in Dubai next winter.

Another footballer to arrive was young Tom Cleverley (theone they call the new Paul Scholes) and hes taken a share in 4 horses and theres a colt called Cuban Tache who isowned by 8 present and past Manchester United players including Scholes, Giggs,Neville, Butt, Carrick, Oshea and Wes Brown.

Not to be outdone Jonathon Woodcock who plays for Stoke Cityowns Johnny Mudball in the stables and he could be a top sprint handicapper in2012.

After visiting the horses we then relaxed in the ownerslounge and there I was sitting between two of the worlds most famous sportsmanhaving a chat-I almost had to pinch myself-and if that wasnt all a few minuteslater the door opened and in walked Dynamo- the worlds greatest magician whoproceeded to get the cards out and showed us some of his incredible tricks.

It was a remarkable day and youll be able to see the wholething soon on MUTV!
