Tommos world of racing
Its not a race and there are no prizes to be won yet in the Sport of Racing it's all about opinion and that's why every year the World Thoroughbred Rankings arouse plenty of harmony and also discontent!
It's when the handicappers of the major racing countries get together and give a rating to the top racehorses.
No worries about Frankel being the World's Best Racehorse and his rating of 136 is the best since Brigadier Gerard in 1972!
No worries either about the Aussie sprint queen Black Caviar being crowned World Champion Mare but she's only on a mark of 132 despite beingunbeaten in 16 races and that's 4 lbs less than Frankel!
I certainly don't want to discredit the ratings and I have great respect for the handicappers said Black Caviar's trainer Peter Moody but I'm a bread and butter type of guy and unless it puts bread and butter on my table it doesn't do a lot for me. I think it's very hard to measure horses on a world scale!
How you compare their performances on opposite sides of the world I'm not totally convinced. I just respect them for the great racehorses they are and enjoy it" he added.
And Moody could like the rest of us have something to enjoy at Royal Ascot this year when he brings Black Caviar over to the UK and there is a chance she could be entered in the Queen Anne Stakes and take on Frankel!
Now that would be worth something to shout about and then we wouldn't need anyone's opinion because it would be winner take all-World Champion- in one race!
I like the sound of that but the Queen Anne Stakes is over a mile and if Moody decides to keep her at the sprint distances then Deacon Blues from the James Fanshawe's stable here at Newmarket who improved out of all recognition last season would be ready to take her on!
Frankel at the moment is having easy exercise at Sir Henry Cecila's Stable in his indoor school at Warren Place while Black Caviar is expected to have her first run of the year in a Grade 2 race over 7 furlongs inAustralia later this month.
If I owned Danedream I would be a little disappointed with her rating of 128 after all she did win the Prix de l'arc de Triomphe-Europe's richest and arguably toughest race to win-in record time!
The Handicappers certainly didn't think a lot of the 2 year olds last year!
OK we all knew that trying to follow in the hoofprints of the 2010 joint champions Frankel and Dream Ahead was going to be difficult butthe 2011 lot were rated 7lbs less!
Camelot who won the Racing Post Trophy and Dabirsim who wonthe Prix Morny under Frankie Dettori shared top honours but their rating of 119is the lowest since 1985!
I dont know about you but I thought Camelot was incredibly impressive at Doncaster and I would haveput the Aiden Obrien horse on at least a 121 or 122 mark.
I also thought that Wrote who won the Breeders Cup Juvenilewould have been rated higher than a paltry 115 and Godolphins Discourse onlygot a mark of 110!
Admittedly she was injured and unable to run again after herrunaway win in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes and I know Frankie Dettori thinksthe world of her!
Lord Lloyd Webber who has written so many hit musicals is tosend his top racemare Dar Re Mi to Darleys exciting young stallion Dubawi whostands at Dalham Hall stud at Newmarket.
Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Jesus Chris Superstar are justsome of Lloyds Webbers big hits in the theatres around the world and Dar Re Miwas also a big winner for him on the racecourse winning three Group 1srounding off with success in the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan.
She is quite a big mare said Lloyd Webbers racing managerSimon Marsh and Im hoping Dubawi will put a bit of speed into her!
Dubawi who incidentally will cost 75,000 for a service in2012 is going to be a busy boy over the next few months and another attractivelady heading his way is Ouija Board!
Ouija Board who won nearly £4,000,000 in prize money aroundthe world was not in foal last year but as Stanley house Stud manager Peter Stanley said-Dubawi is an exciting young stallion and I feel it is a goodmatch!
He is certainly right about Dubawi being an exciting youngstallion for his winners to runners strike rate last year was anastonishing 49%!
I'm pleased to see football managers who are racehorseowners doing well in the Premier League!
Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United and Harry Redknapp of Tottenham Hotspur like nothing better than a day out at the races and it helps take away some of the pressures of being a top class football manager.
Ferguson is used to the pressure of course for he recently enjoyed his 25th anniversary as manager of Manchester United and has a number of horses who all wear his red and white colours.
Redknapp whose Spurs team are the dark horse in the race for the Premiership has been a racegoer most of his life and at Goodwood I once had the pleasure of sitting next to him and his wife at lunch.
David Moyes is another who likes his racing and the Evertonboss has a horse in training with Donald Mcain.
Joey Barton will have plenty of time to go racing over thenext few weeks because the QPR player is suspended but between training likesnothing better than come to the training centre at Newmarket to see how hishorses are getting on.
And after meeting Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen at Owen's stables in Cheshire just before Xmas it's good to know some of football's bigearners are putting it back into racing!
